Homemade Apple Butter

A delicious, homemade apple butter with warm spices, perfect for spreading on toast or adding to your favorite autumn recipes.

What you need

pinch salt

tsp ground nutmeg

cup granulated sugar

cup brown sugar

lb apple
lemon

tsp ground cinnamon
cup apple cider
Instructions
1. Chop the apples into small, uniform chunks. 2. Place the chopped apples into a large pot or Dutch oven. 3. Pour in the apple cider and squeeze in the lemon juice. 4. Add salt, ground cinnamon, and freshly grated nutmeg. 5. Add the cinnamon stick to the pot. 6. Stir to combine, cover, and cook over medium heat until the apples are very soft and breaking down. 7. Remove the lid and take out the cinnamon stick. 8. Use an immersion blender to blend the mixture until it reaches your desired consistency, either chunky or smooth. 9. Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar to the pot. 10. Stir until the sugars are completely dissolved. 11. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the apple butter has thickened and darkened in color. 12. Spoon the hot apple butter into clean jars and seal. 13. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator.
